Description of Activities:
Mr Abdul Quyyum was born in
Bangladesh, Sylhet, Shodor in 1948. While in Bangladesh Mr. Quyyum took
active part in politics as a freedom fighter to bring independence to
Bangladesh. Although he did not engage in combat fighting, he did however
participate in supplying information and giving guidance
to other fellow freedom fighters from different parts of India, in order to
win the war of liberation in 1971.
He arrived in London in 1972
and set about in establishing himself in the restaurant trade. Mr Quyyum now
runs successful restaurants in London including 'The Viceroy' in Charlton
and 'The Meghna Grill' in South Woodford.He has established successful
businesses in East Sussex and Kent, which include the 'Junaki' in Heathfield
and Hawkhurst.
Mr Quyyum has established businesses in Bangladesh also,
with one of the largest shareholdings in the Pubali Bank. He is also the
Managing Director of Hotel Monzil Rest House in Sylhet and a partner of
Hotel Mojlish, Sylhet. He owns one of the largest properties in Shibgonj,
Sylhet, providing accommodation. He recently launched a weekly newspaper in
Sylhet known as the 'Din Chitro'.
Mr Quyyum carries on developing himself even more in
charitable causes and initiatives. He has been highly active within the
Bangladeshi community by being the Trustee of The Bangladesh Centre, Life
member of Dhaka Jalalabad Association, Member of The Bangladesh Welfare
Association, Member of The Brick Lane Jamme Masjid and now by becoming one
of the Directors of BBCC. |
